Born
in Dallas, Kay divides her loyalties between both Texas and Colorado. She lived
in Colorado for 15 years, and continues to go there whenever time permits.
Kay began her artistic career some 20 years ago when she took the first of many courses in glass. Stained glass was the first form of expression her lifelong love of glass would take. Ten years later, the emphasis would shift to kiln formed glass.
Somewhere in the midst of this love affair with glass, Kay decided to return to school to complete a degree in art started years earlier. She earned her BFA in metalsmithing and jewelry from the University of North Texas. Glass was not an option as a major, so a major in jewelry was a natural. Kay grew up watching her father pursue his hobby of jewelry as an adjunct to his dental career. While in school, the artist explored metalsmithing, sculpture, and watercolor. Again, watercolor was a logical choice as Kay's mother is an accomplished watercolor artist.
Since then, Kay has focused her work on kiln worked glass that is ever increasing in size, scope, and technical complexity. The addition of metalworking skills has only added to her ability to enhance her glasswork. Her work is shown in galleries around the country. Most recently, her work has caught the attention of designers and she has turned her attention to commercial installations.
Kay is the mother of two boys and maintains a studio in Dallas where she juggles family, home, and glasswork with a devotion and passion to all.
